10 Dec Message from The Head of School, December 10, 2020
Dear TCS Parents,
You have done a wonderful thing. You have given your children a beautiful gift, a costly gift, a sacrificial gift. You have chosen to send your children to Covenant. For the finances you’ve allotted to tuition, to giving to the Covenant Fund, to uniforms and supply fees, to countless other Covenant-related expenses, you might have purchased a second home, taken more lavish vacations, or at least paid off your mortgage early. But you have chosen instead to give your children the gift of a Covenant School experience.
With this experience that you’ve chosen for your children comes the unparalleled delight of celebrating the birth of our Savior with all the joys and traditions of a school dedicated to Him. As an independent school, Covenant is free to celebrate Christmas any way we choose. And our school chooses to celebrate in abundance, as a school both “founded upon and informed by the Word of God” (from our mission statement).
The Word of God tells us about celebrating Jesus, about rejoicing in Emmanuel, God with us.
Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!! 2 Cor. 9:15
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased! Luke 2:14
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulders,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
And, of course, we sing the songs of Christmas, the real songs of joy and praise:
Joy to the World!
Hark, the Herald Angels Sing!
Away in a Manger
We talk about the angels who visited Mary to tell her about Jesus coming, and the one who talked to Joseph, and the one who came to Zechariah and Elizabeth, and the shepherds. We tell the story of how Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem to be counted in the census even though Mary was super-pregnant and how God took care of them.
And what a delight it is to watch your children experience the Christmas traditions of our school.
You have given to your children a wonderful, extravagant gift. Thank you for allowing us to share in the delight of this season with them.
