Dear PreK and Kindergarten Moms,
It’s hard, isn’t it? You didn’t realize it would happen this fast, did you? Whether this is your first or fourth child starting school, it still takes your breath away at how fast school sneaks up on you! It seems like just yesterday you were teaching your baby to walk and now they are preparing to start an adventure without you. Your baby’s world is expanding into things that don’t include you. They are spreading their wings and it hurts a little doesn’t it? Nothing is going to ever be the same.
You know your baby is ready and there is great comfort in that, but change is hard, even when it is exciting. It is going to be a big adjustment for both of you. Give yourself grace and kindness to feel the bittersweet ache that comes with seeing your child grow apart from you, while still being their biggest cheerleader.
Your child is needed in this world! He or she has been made in the image of God and has something to show the world about God that no one else can! You already know some of his or her gifts but there will be some that are our privilege to uncover and explore at school. We can’t wait to challenge your child to think and grow! Some days will be hard and some will be full of wonder and excitement. However, each one is a gift that will help your child become the person God intends them to be.
But you know what? Despite all that happens at school, you—yes, you—are still your child’s safe place! No matter what happens at school, you are the one your child will always look to first for love and security. Your arms are the ones that your child will always run to for comfort in good times and bad. And let me tell you a secret, there is nothing better than the look in your baby’s eyes when they first spot you after school, bubbling over with excitement to see you and tell you about their day. It is a precious thing.
So get ready! This is happening! Nothing is ever going to be the same again, except your love for your baby. Get the tissues out and get set for an amazing ride. It’s scary, thrilling, wild and unpredictable and we can’t wait to see what God has in store!
