Several approaches to teaching music are combined to produce a well-rounded music education program.  Our objective is to give every student the opportunity to experience music in a variety of ways so each can develop a lifelong love for music.

MUSIC INSTRUCTION includes:                                                                                                                   
  • Recognition of Steady Beat, Rhythm Reading
  • Exploring the singing voice through echo singing and the Kodaly approach
  • Developing Listening Skills, Movement and Drama
  • Rhythm and Orff instruments to accompany songs
  • Developing Vocabulary of Musical Terms and Concepts
  • Introduction to instruments of the orchestra & various composers
  • Music Theory, Grades 1-4 in preparation for reading music
  • Introduction to the piano through the use of portable roll-up keyboards
  • 4th-6th Graders are introduced to recorders, handchimes, percussion & guitars
FINE ARTS ENHANCEMENTS
  • After-school fine arts opportunities through the TCS Enrichment Academy - choir, dance, drama, Instrumental Study in piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello

GRADE LEVEL PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES:
  • Grandparent's Day, Tuesday, November 22, There will be a chapel service featuring all grade levels; classroom visits and reception to follow
  • Christmas Program, Friday, December 16, 10:30 a.m. PreK/Kindergarten classes will   present "The Baby in the Manger"
  • Spring Show, Friday, March 9, 10:30 a.m. 1st & 2nd grade classes will present the musical, "BUGZ!"
  • Musical, Thursday, April 5, 10:30 a.m. 3rd-6th grade classes will present "The Amazing Grace Race"
  • Talent Revue, Friday, May 4, time TBD. Presented by 5th & 6th Grade classes    219.jpg

SCHOOL CHOIR:                                                                                                     
  • Students in Grades 2-6 are invited to participate in THE COVENANT SCHOOL CHOIR this year. Rehearsals will be Tuesday afternoons, 3:00-4:00pm in Music Room 225. We plan to have a Fall Session (Sept/Oct/Nov) and Spring Session (Mar/Apr/May). A $20.00 fee will be charged for each session to cover the cost of music. If your child (2nd-6th) is interested in participating, please email Mary Magyar. 

FINE ARTS ENHANCEMENTS include:
  • hosting local groups such as The Nashville Ballet or Opera
  • taking field trips to The Nashville Symphony or Country Music Hall of Fame
