English

English assignments cover a variety of literary genres including short stories, myths, poetry, novels, plays and folktales. Tasks often correspond with the students' history curricula. Many assignments address the theme of having a Biblical worldview, particularly through the Foundations and Frameworks Reading program. Each project is designed to accomplish specific learning objectives through six components: Literature, Vocabulary, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Oral Presentation. Students achieve the learning objectives through individual reading comprehension, individual writing applications, writing workshops, group discussion, group presentations, individual presentations, creative activities, research and technology. English assignments encourage students to explore, to imagine, and to create as they learn to read closely, to think critically, to write powerfully and to communicate effectively.

Math

Everyday Mathematics curriculum begins to take a Pre-Algebraic focus in the sixth grade. Units include: Algebra and Uses of Variables; Data and Chance; Geometry and Spatial Sense; Measures and Measurement; Numeration and Order; Patterns, Functions, and Sequences; Operations; and Reference Frames. Our goal is to make math relevant to and in each student's life.

Science

Primary focus is built around social and personal perspectives in science and is modeled after the national science standards. Hands-on lab work is of utmost importance to the success of sixth graders scientists where students learn by doing. Sixth graders lead the Environmental Protection Club where they put their knowledge to action. Studies include the human body, variables, and pollution. Students participate in the Invention Convention and science based field trips.
