Pre-Kindergarten
The TCS PreK 4/5 program is a 2-year, multiage program. The students have the option to attend on Wednesday through Friday (3 Day Program) or Monday through Friday (5 Day Program) from 8:00 to 2:45. The curriculum includes Opening the World of Learning: A Comprehensive Early Literacy Program (OWL), a research-based early literacy curriculum devoted to capturing a young child’s natural curiosity about the world in an activity oriented program. The OWL curriculum promotes interactive learning through the use of child-initiated centers. Word play, early writing, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and alphabet knowledge are developed through the use of music, movement, center-based activities, small group instruction, and both large group and one-on-one conversations.
Additionally, the PreK students experience engaging activities from the Journeys into Math and Early Literacy program, a developmentally appropriate software program that includes supportive classroom activities that allow the children to explore and discover essential emergent math and literacy skills. The Prek children are introduced to a wide genre of noted children’s literature and the authors.
The PreK curriculum covers all domains of learning: Language and Literacy, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, The Arts, and Physical, Social, Spiritual, and Emotional Development. Teachers record student observations to note progress and achievement so that instructional opportunities can be planned to challenge every student. Additionally, our PreK students may attend enrichment classes for Art, Bible, Drama, Music, P.E., Library, and Spanish.
The PreK students begin each day by attending chapel. They become eager volunteers as they learn how to lead songs for worship and to pray for others. TCS PreK 4/5 program is accredited by the Tennessee Department of Education and SAIS/SACS.
