Language Arts

Third graders will read one story a week with a phonics, grammar, and literacy skill intertwined with the unit. Readings include a variety of classic and contemporary works, including realistic fiction, folktales, informational nonfiction, biography and autobiography, plays, and poems. Students will work on their oral language development, word identification skills, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing through our literacy program. Students present a biography book report during the year. Students love participating in the unit built around Ramona Quimby, Age 8.

To develop writing skills, students write daily in a journal. Grammar skills are practiced every morning with a Daily Oral Language (DOL) review and students use workbooks to practice grammar usage.
